2014 - 2016
The idea for this body of work, Immersion, came from a need to explore outside my typical aesthetic. My work tends to stick to an austere color palette, generally all white, and woven with delicate yarn. Each piece from the Immersion series explores color while keeping to a minimal or even monochrome theme. The immersion dyeing process relies on accurate measurement of dye powder and dyeing time. Adjusting these variables yields unique results from each batch of rope dyed. Bundling the rope in different lengths, combined with dyeing some portions for longer randomizes the results from piece to piece. By controlling the width of each weaving I was able to further vary the compositions created by the dyed and undyed rope segments.
