This body of work explores disguise.
The process of weaving is based on a grid system and manipulation of this grid system creates patterns. By disguising a plain weave cloth background with a more complex woven structure in another material, the basic nature of the plain weave cloth is hidden. The quiet color palette used in these pieces makes both patterns, large and small, invisible from afar. Upon closer observation, the depth of these complex patterns is revealed. Perception is always shifting; changing, reinventing and disguising oneself further varies the possible perception. Moments of changing perception are what enticed me to create this work. Is your first impression true to reality? Your last?
